Get a foundational understanding of grief and how to support someone after a loss

This course has been distilled from the larger and more comprehensive Grief Guides: Mapping Compassionate Support course. Some of the material in this course, such as the videos, was created for the Grief Maps training, so there may be occasional references to the Grief Map, which is a paper-based guide that can be used in supporting someone. But we recognise that not everyone will need the full 12-hour Grief Guides course, or cannot afford the budget right now, so we made this condensed version to reach even more people.

In this course, we will be giving you a solid foundational knowledge of grief, so you have the insight and confidence to support someone in their grief journey. We will also signpost you to extra resources and source material where you can add even more depth to your understanding.

The self-learning content will take around 3-4 hours. But we encourage you to spread that out, take your time over it and really invest in your own reflective work, as well as connecting with the community. Essentially, it will take as long as you personally need to fully engage with it. You will be bringing your own life experience and perspective to this, and those may shift as you work through the material, engage in that essential self reflection, and connect with the community. The more you engage, the richer your learning will be.

When you have done this course, you will have the opportunity to remain in the community and keep in touch, so when we bring more free resources online, you will be notified.

What To Expect

Relatable and transferable knowledge.
The insights you will get in this training will be useful across your life, from work to community to family. Grief is a part of the human condition, but when we learn how to adapt and grow around our grief, the less life complications we encounter.

Who Is This Course For?

This training is suitable for anyone who wants to understand grief more and offer support, and prefers to do their learning in their own time. Whether you are in a role that involves interacting with the bereaved regularly, you want to contribute to a more grief-informed workplace, or you just want to offer better support to the people in your life, this training will give you knowledge, insights, and skills.

It is purely self-learning content, which gives you a solid foundation into grief awareness and will build skills that help you communicate better and offer effective grief support. It does not include any live trainer-led content, and you won't receive the paper-based Grief Map resource that is part of the three part grief training package that we also offer. Before you sign up for this course, you may want to have a look at Grief Guides: Mapping Compassionate Support, in case that will meet your needs better.
