Beyond Sympathy: Insight and Skills for Grief Support
In this 3 hour live trainer-led session, we will be giving you a solid foundational knowledge of grief and communication skills, so you have the insight and confidence to support someone in their grief journey.
This is a group booking for a session that will be interactive, for up to 20 attendees.

Overview of Session

Whether your team interacts with the bereaved on a regular basis, or you want to build a more grief-informed organisation where compassionate and effective grief support is readily available to staff/colleagues/volunteers/clients, this training will guide attendees on how to make a difference at the time that matters most.
By the end of the 3 hour session participants should be able to:
Recognise the different ways grief can manifest and have an impact on people’s lives
Understand some foundational grief models that help people navigate the grieving process
Build confidence in how to approach emotionally challenging conversations with someone experiencing grief
Have awareness of the ways that trauma can affect someone
Gain insight for supporting those who are neurodivergent
Learn how care-filled lives support growth and adaptation, whether we’re grieving or supporting
Meet the instructor
Martin Roddis
Martin Roddis is a storyteller, trainer and creator, and one half of Elephants In Rooms, which delivers innovative training content to help organisations build foundational skills when interacting with the bereaved. Martin created the Grief First Aid course for Cruse Bereavement Support, and has training experience in a wide range of sectors. He is also a therapist who integrates a number of approaches, from Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy, to clinical hypnotherapy, to the wisdom of the Stoics.
